  • Bond-a Rito sa N.E.U.

Yes, classes were interrupted! Now that the program of battle of the bands (“Bond-a Rito Sa N.E.U.”) was held at the quadrangle, with its very loud speakers, classes were disturbed and quizzes were postponed by the professors. MC2B had a very short quiz in Philo2 and immediately, were dismissed. Professors couldn’t teach the lectures properly because of the noise that was heard from 1st up to the 4th floor of the main building because of the program. A lot of professors were claiming that their classes were affected by the extreme noise of the bands. It should be held somewhere else like at the U-Hall where classes can’t be disturbed. “Is this what we call music or a noise?”, a professor said annoyingly. In our Rizal class, we moved to the high school building to have the classes because of the said program. It was really loud. Just as if there is a concert at the university.

There were almost twenty bands that joined the contest. Each of them had different attitudes that stand out from the other. Some of them play rock music, pop and etc. Our classmate Edward also joined the contest. He plays the bass guitar and they were the second to perform. The noisy program started at 1:00pm and ended in the afternoon. Among the songs that were played were “Bleeding Love” and “Ang Pusa Mo”. There were also songs of Chicosci, Parokya Ni Edgar, Eraserheads and Kamikazee. The quadrangle was full of audiences enjoying the uniqueness and energy of the bands. The perception of the program was “enjoyable” to the audience (students), while for the professors, it was “very annoying”.

The main problem of this study is to determine how the tagalized cartoon problems affects the behavior and learning of children ages 7-13 years old who patronize these programs. Specifically, it attempts to answer the following questions:

    1. What are the most patronized Tagalog cartoon programs?

    2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Tagalog cartoon programs?

    3. How does Tagalog cartoon programs affects the understanding of

        Filipino children to these shows?

        children ages 7-13 years old?

    Significance of the Study

As concerned Mass Communication students, we believe that the youth is the hope of our nation. Modern technologies continually change the attitudes of the children like in the generation, Tagalog cartoons are evolving and most children adapt the characters of the cartoon shows like Spongebob Squarepants, Jimmy Neutron, Rocko’s Modern Life, Dora the Explorer, Catdog, and etc. We want to help their parents in monitoring their behavior and learning abilities, and also, to be aware of the nature of the cartoon programs that their children are watching. Most children watch tagalong cartoon programs because it is easy for them to understand this language. We also want to help their parents to discover the advantages and disadvantages of watching tagalong cartoon programs; how it affect children’s behavior, and how it affects the way of learning of children at school.

    Scope and Limitations

This study focuses on the effects of Tagalog cartoon programs in the behavior and learning of children ages 7-13 years old. It includes the advantages and disadvantages of Tagalog cartoon programs in the minds of the children. Also, this study will identify the characters and the cartoon programs that are adopted and patronized by children. This study is limited to children ages 7-13 years old who are only watching Tagalog cartoon programs and that is aired only in the Philippines.

  • How The Rice and Corn Came to Us

    Summary:

Kenogolagey and his wife Kenogen, ate only camote and cassava. One day, an old man visits them and tells them of a better food, the rice and corn that can only be gotten from castle of a fierce giant in the middle of the sea. Kenogolagey sends his two friends, the cat and his dog, to get the food. As the giant sleeps, the cat takes rice grains into his mouth and the dog a pair of corn ears. Swimming back to the shore, the dog drops his corn ears into the bottom of the sea, and the cat, unable to help him because it had rice grains in its mouth, delivers the grains in the shore and swims back to get the corn ears at the bottom of the sea. The dog gets the grain and heads for home, claiming glory for itself. The cat survives, finds its way home with the ears of corn. The cat reveals the truth about the dog, the dog jumps at the cat, to tear it apart, but the cat nimbly runs away. Although the adventure brought rice and corn to the Tiruray, it also caused the permanent enmity between dogs and cats.View Interpretation. . .
